RIP – PTR Palanivelrajan

PTR Palanivelrajan, the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Minister, passed away today due to a massive heart attack. The former assembly speaker was born in Theni district but spent most of his time in Madurai. He started his career as a lawyer before joining politics in 1968. He was very much respected by people irrespective of party affiliations. Though he suffered a shock defeat in 2001 due to the rift between Karunanidhi's two sons MK Stalin and MK Alagiri, he bounced back in the recent election with a win from the Madurai Central Assembly constituency. He is survived by his wife and son.
