Censorship?

Leading technology portal Slashdot reported that Indian ISPs under the direction of Government of India has decided to block blogs such as Blogger and Typepad in the immediate aftermath of the Mumbai bomb blasts. This has resulted in thousands of bloggers in India and abroad joining together to protest the decision.

Ministry of Information Technology has now provided an explanation for this problem which they blame it on a “technical error”. It clarified that it has issued orders to major ISP companies like Tata, Sify, Reliance, and BSNL to block around 18 blogs in an effort to curb religious extremism on the web. However, the “technical error” resulted in many of the popular blogs to be on the blackout list.
