Swamy seeks withdrawal of seer case

The DMK government in Tamil Nadu should withdraw the 'false' case filed against Kanchi Sankaracharyas by the previous AIADMK regime, Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy said here yesterday.

"The Sankararaman murder case filed by the previous AIADMK government was false. The government should also take action against the police officials responsible for filing the false case against the acharyas," he told reporters.

He alleged that there was a conspiracy against senior seer Sri Jayendra Saraswathi who mingled with people of all castes and "reconverted many people to Hinduism".

Swamy wanted Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to fulfil his election promises within six months, failing which Janata Party along with BJP would launch a state-wide agitation.

Describing the state government order allowing any Hindu to become a temple priest as a "fraud", he said a survey would reveal that non-Brahmins formed the majority of the archakas.

"It would be violative of temple agamas (rules) to make non-believers archakas," he said.
