No respite!

Jayalalitha suffered a legal setback today. An Economic Offence court refused to discharge Jayalalitha and her close associate Sasikala Natarajan from four income tax related cases. In its judgement, the court pronounced that there was sufficient prima facie evidence against the accused and that there was sufficient ground to proceed against them. The cases relate to their alleged failure to file income tax returns as individuals for the assessment year 1993-94 and as partners in Sasi Enterprises for assessment years 1991-92 and 92-93. The case will go to trial on July 5th.
