eBay’s AdContext to challenge Google’s AdSense

One of the biggest success story for Google is its Ad Sense program which contributes to a significant chunk of its revenue. Ad Sense program basically allows people to post snippets of code on their website which would display relevant ads based on the contents of their website. The revenue from the ads is shared between Google and the owner of the website. Now Google has competition. Auction giant eBay has launched a similar program to compete with Google (may be in response to Google Base). eBay will use ads sponsored by vendors on its auction site. Given that users’ profits have been squeezed in recent months by Google, this announcement should be welcome news for them.
