Vote bank politics?

The controversial movie Da Vinci code has been banned by the Tamil Nadu state government because it hurts the sentiments of Christians. The movie has already been cleared by the Centre after the special screening in the presence of Christian leaders.

While, the movie has been released in Chrisitian dominated countries it sad that Tamil Nadu becomes the second state in our country to ban this movie. I believe that this action was taken by the government with vote bank politics in mind since Christians constitute about 6 per cent of Tamil Nadu's population.

Press Release from Tamil Nadu government,

The screening of the movie might hurt the religious feelings and sentiments of the Christian community and lead to demonstrations and disturb peace and tranquillity within the State…

[Update] On Thursday evening, other states like Andra Pradesh, Pondicherry, and Meghalaya have also decided to ban the movie Da Vinci code.
