Vijaykanth’s maiden speech

In his maiden speech in the assembly yesterday, Vijaykanth welcomed the DMK government's move to reduce the price of rice in the Public Distribution System (PDS) from Rs 3.50 to 2.00 per kg, and to write off loans taken by farmers from co-operative banks. In his speech, Vijaykanth reiterated his party's support to the state government in the Cauvery and Mullaiperiyar desputes. But he criticized the DMK government for not taking steps to curb corruption at all levels of government. He welcomed the move of the state government proposal for installation of Shivaji Ganesan statue. He also said that his party was in favor of reservations for OBCs, and SC/STs.
