Top 10 Global Brands
Business Week has published a list of the Top 10 brands world-wide. To no surprise, Coca-Cola was ranked as the top brand. Software maker, Microsoft, was ranked at #2 followed by IBM, General Electric (GE), Intel, Nokia, Toyota, Disney, McDonalds, and Mercedes Benz.
The magazine also mentions that Telecommunication equipment maker Motorola and Computer maker Apple have regained brand value due to the popularity of their hot selling products, RAZR and iPod respectively. The magazine found that Google was the fastest growing brand with an increase of 46% over the previous year.
Reversible silk sari?
The next time you want to save a trip or two to the sari store here’s an idea,
RmKV silks has launched a `reversible silk sari’, which can be worn in four ways and which looks different whichever way it’s worn. Participating in a function to unveil the sari, T.H. Somashekar, Director of the Central Silk Technical Research Institute, acknowledging the record-making effort, said that the creation of a double cloth silk sari involved a difficult weaving process. “This is technically stupendous, as it calls for an application of knowledge,” he said, pointing out that the reversible sari will give a boost to silk handlooms, which face competition from power looms.
No confidence motion
Wasting time is nothing unusual during the proceedings of the Tamil Nadu assembly session. Today, ADMK senior member of the house Thambidurai brought a no-confidence motion against speaker Avudaiappan. In-spite, of knowing fully well that there wasn’t a glimmer of hope for such a motion to pass. DMK trying to use this to gain milege out of the stupidty of the ADMK bypassed the requirement for the 14 day notice.
The speaker excused himself from the proceedings and deputy speaker Duraiswamy temporarily took over. Since the motion wasn’t even seconded by another ADMK member, Duraiswamy announced that the motion was defeated by a voice vote. The ADMK members led by deputy Leader of Opposition Paneerselvam then staged a walkout.
